Phonics is step by step instruction to learn reading.First students are taught letter and sounds.Vowels and consonants sounds are then introduced.Blending is joining together individual sounds of letters to make words.Once students learn blending, digraphs ,sight words ,we can introduce simple sentences for reading.

Initially short sentences with cvc words can be taught.Sight word sentences are also suitable for entry level reading.This can be ideally done in kindergarten and grade 1.Good phonemic awareness is necessary for reading sentences.This is generally achieved at the age of 6-8.
